The FlexCare program at Evergreen Treatment Services has incorporated telemedicine into their opioid treatment and recovery programs.  Serving predominately rural areas where opiod overdose rates are some of the highest in the state and qualified prescribers of buprenorphine are scarce. Telemedicine is making care more accessible for patients, by bringing the medical prescribers to them in their own communities, saving patient the daily travel that is typically a barrier in these treatment plans.  

Over the last four years Adventist Health has been on a journey from occasional telemedicine use to a more formal virtual care network, leveraging telemedicine at 22 rural hospitals and clinics with another 12 sites in development.  Adventist worked with AMD Global Telemedicine to integrate its software into Adventist’s Cerner EHR so the results of every telehealth visit is housed in the patient’s permanent record.Critical data that is collected during the telemedicine exam such as vitals and real-time, high definition images, is now sent to Cerner’s EHR.

Telemedicine is a game changer students at the Southwest Jefferson County School district.  A new telehealth initiative by the Indiana Rural Health Association is giving students access to medical care, who might not otherwise be seen by a physician.  This clinics makes it easy for students to get diagnosed and treated for things like the flu, lice, rashes or strep throat.

There are 33 active telehealth and telemedicine projects in the North Country Telehealth Partnership, covering a vast 11-county area of New Year that's home to some of the most remote and underserved regions east of the Mississippi. Hear how Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization and Adirondack Health Institute have partnered together to extend clinical capacity across the state.

A combined effort by the Santana Telehealth Project, Milagro Foundation, Foundation for the Children of the Californias has truly made a difference in the healthcare and well being of children in Mexico. With donated telemedicine equipment from AMD, they are expanding the reach of medical and preventative care for underserved communities.

The service uses technology that allows the GP to measure patients’ vital signs, such as heart rate and blood pressure. The doctor can also record images of the area of complaint, such as the throat, middle ear, skin and eyes, and listen to heart and lung sounds.

Rural communities such as North Country in New York, have populations too small to support having specialists at their local hospitals or clinics.  However through the use of telemedicine technologies, these patients now have access to specialists for services such as counseling, diagnostics and neurological assessments. The North Country Telehealth Partnership is an initiative of the Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization, who has reported tremendous growth for their program over the past few years, from 40 telemedicine appointments in 2014 to 1300 appointments in 2016.

Crothersville Community Schools, the Scott County School District and Southwestern Jefferson County Schools Consolidated are the first southern Indiana school districts offering sick students a digital doctors visit. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Indiana Rural Health Association and the schools, student will soon have access to better healthcare - and they won't have to go farther than the school nurse's office. A collaborative partnership between Managed Health Services, Indiana Rural Health Association, Elwood Community School Corporation, Aspire Indiana and St. Vincent Mercy allowed Elwood school district to open a telehealth clinic in their school nurse's office.Using telemedicine technologies such as AGNES Interactive and connected medical devices, the school nurse can connect to a remote provider over video conferencing, and show them a close up of the physical ailment that is bothering the child. Remote providers are then able to make a diagnosis and write a prescription for the student without the child having to leave school for an appointment.

MedviewMD from Chatham, Ont. has set up telemedicine clinics in four pharmacies in Kamloops, Langley and Chilliwack. Customers can quickly renew prescriptions by meeting via video link with a doctor in Ontario, and it’s all covered under B.C.’s medical services plan (MSP).
