AMD Global Telemedicine Awards LA County Sheriff’s Department for Excellence in Telemedicine
The AMD Global Telemedicine President’s Award for Telemedicine Excellence Recognizes Successful Implementation and Long Term Sustainability of a Clinical Telemedicine Program
Chelmsford, MA, August 15, 2013 – AMD Global Telemedicine Inc. (AMD), the world’s leading supplier of clinical Telemedicine Encounter Management Solutions (TEMS) TM, announces the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Medical Services Bureau as the recipient of the annual AMD Global Telemedicine President’s Award for Telemedicine Excellence.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Medical Services Bureau was selected by AMD Global Telemedicine for this award based on their ability to successfully implement and sustain a telemedicine program that has improved the quality of care for their patients. As the world’s largest jail system, they are responsible for the healthcare needs of over 18,000 patients. Their use of telemedicine technology to provide quality healthcare services has significantly reduced the security risks and costs associated with transporting patients. More importantly, it has enabled them to more efficiently utilize their providers and expand virtual coverage to all clinic areas within the jail facilities.
“The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is proud to be honored for our work in telemedicine. Our goal with this program from its pilot inception in 2007 was to address the costs and security challenges associated with removing patients from the jail setting, but still provide the constitutionally required level of healthcare,” commented Chief David Fender. “Now, in full operation with the latest AMD technology, we use telemedicine to deliver healthcare inside the jail walls for 20,000+ patient consults per year,” added Chief Fender.
The AMD Global Telemedicine President’s Award for Telemedicine Excellence will be presented to the LA County Sheriff’s Department Medical Services Bureau on August 22, 2013 during the “Telemedicine Peer-to-Peer Education” event organized by Nexus Connected Healthcare, AMD Global Telemedicine and Cisco Systems, Inc. This event will take place at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club in Corona del Mar, CA. Representing and receiving the award on behalf of the LA Country Sheriff’s Department will be Amy Huynh, RN who will be doing a 30 minute presentation to share their experience with setting up and maintaining such a successful telemedicine program.
